It’s sometimes said that the local church is the hope of the world - because, when it’s working right, a local church becomes the hands and feet of Jesus himself, and so can harness all the immense power, creativity and love of God to transform lives and communities for the better. That’s why I often say my job is the best job in the world - because I’m called to deal in hope, and to encourage and equip others to do the same. You see, in these uncertain times, I’m convinced that the way we are is not in fact the way they need end up. I believe that the love of God is bigger and stronger than all the worries, trouble and pain life can throw at us. I trust that God has a plan to transform the Earth, step by step and soul by soul, to become more like that dimension of existence we call Heaven. And I see it happening all around me every day as ordinary people like you and me get stuck in serving their neighbours and joining in with the transforming work of God.
